Security door systems

A security door system is a reinforced door, frame and lock assembly engineered to resist forced entry, and in higher-risk applications, ballistic attack. Alpha Door Solutions, a Gauteng-based manufacturer, designs and builds security door systems for correctional facilities, police stations, financial institutions and industrial sites across Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town.

What is a security door system?

Security performance comes from the whole assembly working together: a reinforced core resists penetration, a stainless steel channel frame anchors the leaf, and a lock protection stile prevents the locking mechanism itself from being accessed or defeated. Alpha builds two standard security door models, tested and certified to SABS 1658-1996 and, for the higher model, BS 5051:

  • Anti-Bandit Door (G1) — designed to protect personnel and assets against small arms attacks, suited to offices, banking halls, internal residential doors and embassies.
  • POLAR® Security Door (G2) — a higher-security model for internal and external use, suited to control buildings, power stations, substations, embassies and financial institutions.

Both are built with a reinforced bullet-resistant core, a stainless steel channel frame, a lock protection stile restricting access to the locking mechanism, and a continuous geared hinge as standard. Neither model is manufactured in double-leaf format.

  • What standard are Alpha's security doors specified against?

    Alpha’s security door systems are tested and certified to SABS 1658-1996, the South African test standard for security doors. The higher-security POLAR® model is also certified to BS 5051. Test reports are held on file and not published online, since they contain proprietary construction detail; certification evidence can be reviewed or supplied on request for a specified project.

  • What is the difference between the Anti-Bandit and POLAR® security doors?

    The Anti-Bandit Door (G1) is designed to protect against small arms attacks and suits offices, banking halls and embassies. The POLAR® Security Door (G2) is a higher-security model for internal and external use, suited to control buildings, power stations, substations and financial institutions requiring a greater level of protection.

  • Can security doors be supplied in double-leaf format?

    No. Both Alpha security door models are manufactured in single-leaf format only. Wide openings requiring security performance need to be designed around this constraint — talk to Alpha early in the specification process if the opening width is a concern.
