Overview
Fire doors are a legal requirement in South African buildings wherever the National Building Regulations call for fire compartmentation or protected escape routes. Alpha's fire doors are specified against SANS 1253, the South African standard covering fire doors and fire shutters, and against the fire protection framework set out in SANS 10400 Part T.

Performance
Fire door performance is assessed against four criteria:

| Integrity | The door holds back flame and hot gases without gaps exceeding specified limits |
| Stability | The leaf stays within its frame without excessive movement during fire exposure |
| Insulation | Mean temperature rise on the unexposed face does not exceed 140°C above ambient |
| Impact resistance | For Classes C and D, the leaf resists impact without openings exceeding 25mm |

Frame options include double-rebated and single-rebated construction, fitted as built-in, bolt-on or drywall applications depending on the wall type.
Certifications and compliance
Alpha's fire doors are tested and certified to SANS 1253 and SANS 10400-T, which apply the National Building Regulations to fire safety in South African buildings. Test reports are held on file and not published online, because they contain proprietary construction detail.
