Escape doors form a critical part of a building’s life‑safety and evacuation strategy. Positioned on designated escape routes at ground level, these doors provide direct access to public spaces or approved open areas, ensuring effective occupant evacuation during emergencies.
All escape doors must comply with the National Building Regulations, including requirements for outward opening, hinged construction, and unobstructed operation without keys or tools. Sliding doors are not permitted on escape routes.
Panic escape doors are specified where rapid egress is required in high‑occupancy environments, while emergency escape doors with push pads or lever handles are suitable for controlled occupancy areas. Hardware selection must ensure immediate usability under emergency conditions.
